To My Little Brother Growing Up Back Home

You will always hold a special place in my heart.

Dear Buddy,

I know that these past two years have been weird and quite different. We grew up inseparable, playing tag on endless summer nights in the backyard and running through Disney World together. We knew the day would come when it would be time for me to head off to school, but I don't think either of us realized the effects that that day would have on the both of us.

You are growing up 1000 miles away from me, and I can't tell you how much I wish I could be there for you as you navigate your high school years. Yes, it is true that every time I see you you seem to have grown another two inches, and yes, I am so unbelievably proud of the young man you are becoming. I see someone strong, confident, and intelligent, a person who I know is going to do incredible things.

That doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt a little every time I can't be there for a choir concert or a swim meet, cheering you on in the crowd. Just know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. My friends here at school are probably sick of hearing your name, that's how much I talk about you. You are my lifelong best friend, and I look forward to every phone or FaceTime call we have. I want to hear about how your day was, about that crazy project you have to do, and about that cute girl sitting in front of you in class, who you have no clue how to talk to.

I am here at school working hard to follow my dreams, as are you back home. Just as you have grown these past two years, I have as well. A word of advice for you: the plan is never going to turn out exactly like you thought, but the new version of the plan is bound to be an adventure! I cannot wait to see which school you choose for college. Any school would be lucky to have you. :)

Thank you for being my buddy, the person I can call for advice anytime, and the most incredible little brother ever. I am so blessed to have you in my life. Until the next adventure we share together, keep getting taller and don't forget that I'm only a phone call away. :)

Love,

Your Big Sister

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
