Let me just start out with: I am so excited to have our families joining together in the near future.
I realize that most of us are adults already (or at least nearing adulthood), but I still cannot even begin to express the excitement I have for our families.
Personally, I grew up in a small family, with very few kids around that I was actually related to.
I was raised by only having to add one leaf to the family table because we only needed a few extra seats.
Now, we flat out need a second table to fit everyone.
Having family gatherings with you all has truly been a highlight of the very few adult years I already have under my belt. It's always a great time when we're together.
I want four kids. We'll see how it goes, but I want a big family myself as well.
I love this quote by Ryan McGinley. He said, "I have a really big family, and pretty much all my work is about my brothers and sisters. I'm the youngest of eight - my mom had seven kids in seven years, and then she had me 11 years later - so I was basically raised by all these teenagers."
I love this because there's this undeniable bond that bigger families have. It just makes you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself.
Coming from a larger family makes you feel protected. It adapts you to become less insecure and more independent. Sure, it's more expensive... but guess what? You will ALWAYS have a small army to keep you going, and, even better, chow down with you afterward.
More family members = MORE FOOD.
Soooooooo, that's an added bonus to consider.
There is always someone there for you, whether it's to entertain you or offer a shoulder to cry on. Sure, some smaller families have that too. But, I've noticed over time that smaller families tend to do their own thing a lot of the time. They don't really have anyone to throw a big gathering with, so they simply don't have them.
I honestly think it's quite humorous (and mind-boggling) to know that some people look at the idea of having kids as if it were going to be like the GIF below.
