To My Girls Back Home

To my homegirls:

I say homegirls meaning "my girls back home."

Another summer is in the books.

In a couple of weeks we will all be going our separate ways. Some of us will stay in our little small town, move across the state, and then there are those who will be going out of state.

It will be hard and we're all acting like it is not coming, but it is and I think it is time to realize that.

I have no doubt in my mind that our group text will still be active on the latest gossip, we will still tag each other in hilarious tweets, and instead of phone calls it will still be FaceTime calls (no matter what gig of data we are on).

College is a scary thing. You leave your girls back home going into a new scene hoping to make new friends, even though those new friends will never quite compare to the old memories.

I just wanted to say one last final thank you to my favs before we go onto our separate ways because who knows when we will have everyone back in town for a sleepover; river cabin nights; late night sonic runs; pool days; or even a mini road trip.

Thank you for the kept secrets.

We all know we have many of those.

Thank you for all the advice you have ever given.

Good or bad.

Thank you for the support through anything and everything.

There are those times where we knew it was never a very good idea, but it is really what you wanted to do, so we all just rolled with it.

Thank you for never judging.

Ever.

Thank you for all the pictures we have ever taken.

Good ones, bad ones, ugly ones, ones we do not speak about. All of them.

Thank you for the lunch dates.

It beats going alone. And when are any of us ever not hungry?

Thank you for the movie dates.

Might not always be in a theater.

Thank you for showing me that no matter what we go through we all come out still the best of friends.

What friend groups don't go through those little moments?

Thank you for the laughs.

We all know what a good laugh ends up being...

And thank you for the cries.

Sometimes we don't want to hear it, but we need to.

Thank you for the memories.

The endless, unforgettable ones.

And many more thank you's.

You have made a chapter in my life fun, and I am looking forward to what God has in store for each and every one of you. Never lose sight of Him and remember that any of us are always one phone call away.

The memories you have with your "homegirls" will last a lifetime. Take lots of pictures, be dumb, have fun, and do whatever with those girls that have made your last couple years the most fun and memorable, because you can't get those years back.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
