An Open Letter To The Man Who Will Become My Other Half

It is easy to believe I will never find you, or you will never find me, but fate has an odd way of working out these kinds of things.

To my future person,

I want to thank you in advance. I have not exactly had the best track history when it has come to relationships and choosing the right kind of men I should allow receiving my attention. So, thank you for being worthy, and recognizing that I am worthy of you.

I am nowhere near perfect, but I take comfort in knowing you are out there to learn to love all of my little quirks and stand by me through my mistakes to help me grow.

I want to apologize for my hesitance in trusting you. I have not had the best experiences with relationships, and have been extremely hurt by men who I cared for fervently. I know you will be patient and understanding with all of my insecurities, and I am grateful for your help in my personal growth and allowing me to trust and love again. I am eager to know you, to know the person who helps balance me: the person that encourages me to become the best woman I can be in this life. And I can only hope I will be able to do the same for you.

I hope you remind me of my grandfather. He wasn't the most sentimental man with writing love letters, but he was intentional with showing his love for my grandmother through his actions each and every day. He helped my grandmother navigate through situations with such love and grace by being the first person she would consult and seek council with. He was a patient, respectful, wise, selfless, humble man. He promised to love her every day of his life and make her the happiest woman if she chose him, and by God, he kept his promise. I miss him every day, and I know he would have been proud that I found you.

I look forward to our future together, and all of the things we will teach one another and learn together in life. I look forward to all of the adventures we take on, big or small. I look forward to all of the memories we create and the inside jokes that come about from them. I look forward to the fear we will face meeting one another's families, which will dissipate when they realize they love each of us and our relationship. I look forward to growing in friendship and in love with you. I know you're out there, and I hope that we recognize each other and our compatibility at the right time.

Yours truly,

The Girl Eager to Meet You

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
