Thank you for starting off my college journey on the right foot

First of all, I’d like to thank you for the opportunity to be a student on your campus. Though my time at Cedarville was short-lived, I learned much from the year I spent as a student and the semester I spent as a student on campus.

When I came to Cedarville, I didn’t know much about how other people lived outside my circle of experience. Thanks to the small window of time I had on campus, I learned a lot more about how to associate with people outside of my own realm of comprehension and experience.

In addition, I came to understand and respect the complaints, concerns, and words of wisdom which came from others about how to survive and thrive in a college environment. And because of the time I spent at Cedarville, I was prepared for greater accomplishment at my next college.

Recently I had the chance to return to the scenes of my first college experience and relive some of the memories I made whilst a student there. Looking back, I find that I don’t really miss taking part in most of the activities and I don’t miss learning from the knowledgeable professors who make the experience all the more worth it. That being said, I will admit that that college will always hold a special place in my heart and mind.

It was where I first made college friends and where I first discovered some of my passions. I had my first work experience there and I learned much about how to live for something more than myself. I made mistakes but I learned from them.I met people and learned more about the world of wonders which surrounded me.

When I had to leave campus, and become an online student through Cedarville, I began a new chapter in my college journey. It was a difficult transition but the people at Cedarville were willing to work with me to make the transition go a little smoother. I enjoyed the classes I took and was glad for the opportunity to experience a new kind of educational setting.

While I ultimately had to let go of even those ties to Cedarville due the expense of staying on as well as the desperation to see people which was welling up within me, I am extremely grateful for all that I could be a part of while I was there.

So thank you again for being a part of my life. I will never forget the time I spent as a student in your midst and I will always look upon your doings with appreciation for the strength that you have and the blessings you instill in others.

For everyone else reading this, thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful day.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
