To My Floor As We Move Out

Because we became a family

To My Floor As We Move Out
Kiley O'Brien

I wanted to start this article off by saying “Thank you”. I’m really not sure if I could have made it this far without you guys. So here is a bunch of things I can thank you for.

Thank you for being my first friends in college. Whether it be from the common room or just leaving my bedroom door open you guys always sparked conversations. And soon I felt like I could consider you guys my friends.

Thank you for always including me in your dinner plans. Whether it be the crappy dining hall food or a floor trip to Panera you always made sure to include me. I know I could count on at least one of you to make sure I didn’t have to eat alone. Because let's be real I'm afraid of that.

Thank you for going out with me. I could never hit up the parties or pre-games if I didn’t have one of you by my side.

Thank you for staying up till 2am with me on the days I couldn't sleep. Hanging in the common room untill the weird hours of the morning seemed to be our speciality.

Thank you to the boys for letting me use their bathroom because the girls was so far away. It was never weird peeing in a stall when one of you were brushing your teeth.

Thank you to the girls for never taking too long of showers. 20 girls to 2 showers seems like a mad house but I only had to wait 3 times this whole year for a shower.

Also girls thank you for keeping our bathroom so clean, for those of you who haven't seen the boys bathroom….we did a great job on the cleanliness.

Thank you for saying “Hey” no matter what. If passing you in the dunkin line or walking from class you all seemed to always say hello and for that I am grateful.

Thank you for letting me lay in your bed while you sat at your desk, just because I needed human interaction. Yeah I have my own bed but being in your presence made life that much better.

Thank you for coming with me on my Walmart trips or food runs. Truth be told I never wanted to do that alone.

Thank you for knocking on my door so loud to wake me up so I didn't sleep through breakfast again. Is it 2pm already?

Thank you for introducing me to your significant others, parents, siblings, cousins, friends. I felt honored to meet them and honored for you to meet mine.

Thank you for never judging me on my nighttime outfits or the lack of makeup on my face. You guys made me feel comfortable enough to be the real me.

Thank you for getting to know me. Asking how my day was or what was going on in my life it made me feel important. I loved hearing about each and everyone of you and wouldn’t want it any other way.

Lastly as this year comes to a close, Thank you for being my best friends. We have grown to be a family. I care about you all so very much, and although we won’t be a floor anymore, I know I will always have you guys as my family.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
