To the Most Passionate Professor,

When I walked into your classroom on the first day of class, I had no idea what to expect. In that moment, I was both scared and nervous with what the course of the semester would bring and if I was going to be able to succeed in your classroom, and quite honestly, quite hesitant if you were going to be a good teacher or not. But as the semester carried on, you quickly became one of my favorite professors, and I want to thank you for that.

Throughout the semester and countless assignments, you continued to push my classmates and me to go the extra mile and get us out of our comfort zones so we would actually retain and learn something from your class. Because of your pushing and constantly getting after us, we are now able to leave your class stronger than ever.

Not only did you try your hardest to get your students to break out of their shells, you also, on many occasions, lent a helping hand and an ear to listen when we had things going on in our personal life. It didn't matter what the lesson plan entailed, you were there to give advice, or even just to listen, which means a lot more than you will ever know. Thank you for always being there for us, and reassuring us that everything was going to be OK, even when we felt like the world around us was going to collapse.

When something in or outside of the classroom was bothering or even frustrating me, you continued to encourage me and tell me that I knew how to handle what I was facing even when I felt like I wanted to give up or drop your class on multiple occasions. Thank you for giving me the confidence to believe in myself no matter the challenge I face.

Thank you for being so passionate about what you do. We knew that you didn’t exactly like to be there late at night teaching us, because frankly, we didn’t want to be there either. But no matter how tired, or exhausted we were, or even you, you were always there to get us excited about what we were learning. Your passion when you taught us was incredibly contagious. Because of how you taught us, I saw myself not only getting excited about getting the assignments done correctly the first time, but that I started getting passionate about the same things you were.

If you realize it or not, you made an everlasting mark on not only my education, but my life. Because of you and your course, you changed my outlook on many things resulting in me being a stronger student, which I am so incredibly thank you for. I know that you don’t get told enough, or at all, but I just want to thank you once more for pushing me so hard and making such a huge impact on my life.

Sincerely,

Hopefully Your Favorite Student

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.
