I could never explain how thankful I am for you.

An Open Letter to My Dad

To the man who brushed my hair, coached the softball and basketball teams, drove me everywhere, attended every sports, musical, and theater event, hosted sleep overs, encouraged me to pursue my dreams, bought me make up, made it possible for me to go to college, put a roof over my head and food on the table, and loved me unconditionally. This one’s for you daddio.

I don’t tell you enough, but I love you. I may not always seem like I appreciate you, but I really do so much. You’re my best friend, dad. I tell you everything. You’re the best man i’ve ever known and I know so many others who could say the same thing.

Thank you for sacrificing your time to raise me & my sisters on your own. You had to be both a mom and a dad. To be honest, you make a mean spaghetti & crock pot chicken!! Thank you for all of the opportunities you’ve given us. I would not be who I am if it wasn’t for you. You truly are the best dad in the world.

You’re the most hardworking man this world has ever known and you’re so selfless. I can’t even begin to explain the amount of time and effort you have put into me & my sisters lives. You sacrificed so much for us. For that, i am forever grateful.

Thank you for being your goofy self and always singing along to any John Melloncamp, Johnny Cash, Ole Crow Medicine Show, & Willie Nelson song that comes on. Thank you for watching Star Wars with me on repeat, being a Harry Potter geek, letting us have 2 puppies, and just spending time with me when you can. There’s no better dad, than you.

I love you so much, daddio.

Thank you for being you.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
