To My College Buddies As We Split For The Summer

It's crazy to think that a year ago, we didn't even know that each other existed. We awkwardly swapped phone numbers during orientation and couldn't remember each other's names for the first week or so. We learned where each other lived, everyone's class schedules, work schedules, and everything in between. Now we're planning out lunch and dinner times for next year because even though our schedules are completely crazy and different, we HAVE to eat together.

I never knew that a few people would make such a difference during my freshman year, so thank you for making it amazing. From the breakdowns to the rants to our inside jokes, getting to know each other was the best thing that happened since the first day of classes. We can instantly tell when someone in the group is having a bad day (or week) and when someone is having the best day of their life (it's usually due to a favorite food being served in the dining hall but hey, it still counts). We are the only girls who could be found sitting in the dining hall two hours after we ate dinner and still talking about God knows what until they close the place down. Our "Office" references made us laugh until we cried, our night at Frolic was certainly one to remember, and let's not forget our adventure to Rita's for our free ice. I wouldn't want to get lost with anyone else but you guys.

Needless to say, these next few months of summer will be strange without the group all together. I'm sure I'll be seeing Snapchats of your summer trips, pictures of new apartments, and posts about Michael Scott and puppies on Facebook. I know that no student actually looks forward to move-in day for next year, but if it means we get to be reunited again, I guess it won't be that bad.

To our graduating friends, even though we will miss you with all our hearts, always know that we are so proud of you. We would really appreciate visits next year whenever possible and will be calling you for last-minute advice. The upcoming years won't be the same without you, but we're excited to see what you'll accomplish in the future. And don't worry, the lunch table in the corner will always belong to us in your honor. Thanks for not only being our supporters the past year but for also being perfect role models! Let us know if you ever need anything!

To my buddies that I'll see back on campus in August, thanks again for making the past 28 weeks of lectures, long papers, presentations, and exams (accompanied with last-minute cramming) more bearable and even enjoyable at moments. Who knows what adventures lie ahead of us but wherever they are, let's hope that we'll look up the directions before we go. Kick butt on your finals, stay safe over the summer, and I'll see your smiling faces in a few short months!

Love,

Your College Buddy :)

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
