As a young girl I was extremely shy. Like others, it was difficult for me to go up and talk to someone, let alone make any friends. Then something miraculous happened and I began coming out of my shell more than I ever thought I could. The reason for this was summer camp.
When I was thirteen I had to opportunity to attend travel camp and go all over the country. I didn’t really know anyone but the environment was lively and everyone was friendly. Being the “new kid” isn’t easy in any situation but I was lucky enough to be put in a good one. As time went on and the summer days progressed, I started to realize something amazing: these people had quickly become my best friends. Till this day I am so grateful to have them and I do not know what I did to deserve such genuine people that are always there to make me laugh, cry and be spontaneous. Although we are not traveling anymore and have all gone our separate ways to college, I want them ALL to know how much they will always mean to me.
So to my wild and crazy camp friends, thank you. I could not even begin to think of any other people that I would have wanted to spend four unforgettable summers with. From singing on the couch bus, to “finding the fun” in any museum or sweaty amusement park, I wouldn’t have wanted to spend these moments with anyone else. I still go around telling people all the things that we did together and when I travel with my family to some place that we went, I can happily recall all the great times we had there. The Adirondacks adventures, Nashville country music, Disney magic (and brutal pranks), and Chicago pizza are only a few of the things I can say I experienced with you all. Even though I don’t think any other summer will be able to top those, I am so glad I still have those stories to tell and its all because of you.
Yet, after these past few summers not being together every day, we have still remained close. So thank you all for sticking around and accepting me into the group. I will always be here for you and no matter where life takes me, I will always have the stories to tell and friends for life. Actually, after all we have experienced together, I wouldn’t even call us best friends. We’re family, and family is forever.
