A Letter To My Younger Brother

First a brother, then a bother, now a best friend.

A Letter To My Younger Brother
Sydney Sutton

Hey. It's me. You're crazy older sister. I am writing this to thank you for being an awesome little brother and for making an impact on my life.

I'll never forget the day I was told that Mom was having a baby. The idea of having a baby brother or sister was so amazing to me. I prayed that Mom would have a boy every night before I went to bed. When Mom found out she was having a baby boy, my joy grew. I counted down the days until I got to hold you in my arms. I'll never forget being taken to the hospital to see you for the first time. I then had a baby to hold all the time, every day! I was so proud that you were my brother from the start. As you started to grow, we started to fight. You always threw your toys at me, bit me when you were mad, and screamed at me. I managed to put up with you.

Thanks you for sharing the love of sports with me. I know if I ever needed someone to go pitch to me, hit with me, or go to a game with me, you'll always be down. Even though our teams are rivals (Go Heels), I wouldn't want to watch a rival game with anyone else. Thank you for especially loving baseball as much as I do. I wouldn't want to watch anyone else play baseball every weekend. There was nothing like the feeling of watching you pitch at the state championship last summer. Every time you step on the mound, a rush fills my body. I cannot bear to sit down because I am so nervous. You are an extremely excellent pitcher and I'm not just saying that because I'm your sister. I am so proud of you and all of your accomplishments over the years. You're an incredible athlete and I have enjoyed watching you grow as an athlete since you were four years old. You are so hardworking and dedicated to every sport you want to try. Your baseball career has taken our family on countless trips, from Myrtle Beach to Cooperstown (twice).

Thank you for loving me. No matter how bad we get on each other's nerves, I love you. No matter how much we fuss and fight, we always got over it. You're my forever friend and I am so thankful I have you.

Thank you for being my "little" brother, even though you're not so little anymore. You're 5'9'' and almost 130 pounds. Literally you're 5 inches taller than me.

Thank you for always being down to get food. I've never met someone who loves Cookout milkshakes as much as me, but you sure do. I know you'll always ride with me to get food after I had a bad day at school.

Thank you for always being down for an adventure. I'm so glad you share the same love of rollercoasters and amusement parks as me. I love having the opportunity to travel with you because you are my favorite travel partner.

I am so proud of you. I may not always act like it or show it, but know I am. I couldn't imagine life without you.

Being your big sister is one of my favorite things in the whole world. Time sure does fly by when you're having fun. Thank you for all the fun and joy you have brought our family the past 13 years. I love you!

Sincerely,

Your big sissy

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
