To My Brother As He Heads Toward Graduation

I will always be your big sister, no matter how old you get.

I can't believe the day is coming when you will finally graduate high school and go into the big world.

It feels like just yesterday when you were my eight-year-old little brother who only worried about Transformers and beating any game you could on your DS.

I remember when you first started roller hockey and how cool you thought it was. Eventually, you moved onto ice hockey, which became the sport you loved most. I apologize in advance for not going to as many games as I should have. But when I did, I was there shouting and supporting you the most.

You have always been the best brother who supported me in everything, got me water bottles when I was too lazy to get out of bed, and brought a positive light to any situation.

It's crazy to think that you are now an adult and graduating to move into the amazing world of college. I know you aren't going too far and will still come home for breaks and some weekends. But I am going to miss you so much.

It's not going to be the same when I secretly make fun of Mom or Dad for something they said or did. It's not going to be the same when I need a car buddy to come with me to get food or just to drive and talk.

It definitely will not be the same not seeing your smiling face coming home from school at 3 P.M. every day, blasting music. However, I can't wait to see you have the time of your life and succeed in whatever you decide to pursue.

Of course, I have to give some wisdom to you as you embark on this new part of your life. Make sure that you make the most out of the next few years and appreciate all of the memories and friends you make.

Don't stress too much about classes, but still make them a priority; you can always retake them. Your wellbeing always comes first.

Be yourself. The great thing about college is that no one really knows who you are, so you are able to start fresh. Focus on being your best self.

Don't party too hard, especially if you have an 8 A.M. the next morning or if you have a big exam the next day.

Time management is key. You are going to have so much free time in comparison with high school. Because of this, you will think you have all the time in the world... until you have three papers, two exams, and a project all due on the same day and you completely forgot about it until the day before.

College is going to change you in ways you didn't think were possible. It's going to change your habits, interests, friend groups, and you as a person.

So get ready for this exciting journey and live it up to the fullest. If anything ever happens, just know I am a call away.

I will always be your big sister, no matter how old you get. I will always support you and defend you through everything in life.

Good luck and I love you.

Love,

Your big sister

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
