Thank you for always loving me.

An Open Letter To My Big Brother

God sure did know what he was doing when he picked you to be my brother.

Having a big brother is not always easy, but it is truly one of the best things in the world. You'll fight about who gets to ride shot-gun, and you'll fight about who gets the remote to control the TV, but in the process, you'll realize how truly amazing it is to have someone who loves you as much as your brother does. Not only will he stick up for you over and over again, but he'll make sure nobody ever messes with his baby sister. So, to my big brother and my number one fan, thank you for years of being my personal bodyguard.

Thank you for always sticking up for me. Whether mom was mad at me or some stupid boy was being mean to me, thank you for never letting anyone mess with me. I'm a lot stronger to this day because of it. You taught me that you don't take crap, so you taught me how not to take it either.

Thank you for always scaring off all the boys. At first, I may not have realized this was a blessing, but now that I'm older, I'm so thankful. You never let any unworthy guys bother me, because if they couldn't deal with you, you didn't think that they deserved to have me. You taught me how to find someone who really does treat me well.

Thank you for letting your friends scare off the boys too. At first, I felt like your friends were always watching my every move, but now I know that they were looking out for me almost as hard as you were. Thank you for always doing your best to keep me safe.

Thank you for driving me to school every morning for years. I'm sure that some days you really wanted to be alone and not hear about a ton of girl drama, but you never denied me a ride. Thank you for teaching me what it looks like to be a good listener.

Thank you for all of the laughter. Some of my favorite memories include us laughing so hard at the dinner table that we thought we might pee our pants. Only you and I could understand how hard it is to make eye-contact and not laugh when we are already in trouble.

Thank you for all of our little secrets. The dining rooms deals, such as "you eat my meat, I'll eat your broccoli," were always the best and the sneakiest. Thank you for making sure I never had to eat the food I didn't want to, and not telling on me when I probably deserved it.

Thank you for being the brother that you have been to me all of my life. There were times where I wanted to kill you, but I'm really glad I didn't, because you are one of the best people I know. I really don't think I could do life without you, and I'm glad I don't have to try it.

So, to my big brother and my partner-in-crime, thank you for all that you have done for me. Don't forget to call me when your laundry needs to be done.

With love,

Your Favorite Sister

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
