To My Bestfriends As College Is Approaching

Some people are beyond pumped for college and others fear moving on and leaving your friends behind, but in my case, I have the best of both worlds. Super excited to go on and make new friends, I know my best friends will always be here and I couldn't be more grateful to have you guys in my life already. No one will ever really understand our relationship unless they were in our shoes, and that's what I love the most. Whether we've known each other our entire lives, or only a few years / months, this is for you, my best friends. It's hard to put in writing everything I'd like to say as we all separate and move on with our lives, but....

Thank you for being you. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for the endless food dates, thank you for all the bonding car rides. Thank you for listening to my rants or cuddling me when upset or laughing at my jokes that probably weren't even funny. Thank you for siding with me and telling me things like “No, you’re so much prettier than she is!” Thank you for welcoming me whenever and being my go to. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to open up to you. Thank you for texting or calling me right away when you need advice or just wanted to talk, thank you for stopping by at my house unannounced because "mi casa su casa."

Thank you for correcting me when I'm wrong. Thank you for telling me the truth, even when it hurts. Thank you for spotting me money when I'm short, or even helping me pick an outfit (I know I won't look bad) because who's more honest than you. Thank you for the "girls nights." Thank you for the beach trips, the parties, the sleepovers, the mall trips, walking the halls in school, the vacations, our movie nights etc. Thank you for telling me all your secrets and letting me tell you mine. Thank you for managing time for me and your other friends / boyfriends. Thank you for listening to my stupid thoughts when I just needed to get it out.

Thank you for never giving up on our friendship even when we fight over little things. Thanks for supporting me even if you aren't the biggest fan of what's going on. Thank you for going out of your way for me, even when it is not always convenient. Thank you best friends, I don't know what I'd do without you. I'm so thankful I got to grow up with you by my side, not everyone has bonds with their friends like we do.

I just wanted to thank you again for being my best friend and always being there for me through everything. My go to girlies, my closest, I plan on it staying that way forever. It's hard to picture not seeing you every day, and making new friends, I'm already super jealous of the new girls you meet that will eventually call you their best friend, but I know our bond will never be broken. I look forward to the millions of stories to share and coming home to see you all. I look forward to the new memories we make that we can look back on all the time. No one knows me better than you do, I love you.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
