To my friends still in High School,
The hardest part about graduating and going to college is leaving you behind. I can't imagine not seeing your smiling face across from me at the lunch table or passing you in the hall. But now this is our reality. So since I can't be there to guide you through your junior and senior year I leave you with this.
As you climb the ladder, freshmen get more annoying. But remember you were just a freshman when we became best friends so keep your eye out. But I also say this, don't ever take crap from a freshman. Put them in their place. They can be entitled brats.
High school goes by fast. I know everyone tells you that, but I can tell you it's the fastest four years of your life. So take advantage of all the opportunities. Go to the football games or musicals. You only get to be in high school for four years, might as well be involved and enjoy it.
Pay attention in class. I know I sound like your mom, but I am the mom friend. But seriously do it. Don't just play games on your Chromebook. Been there, done that.
You don't need a date to prom. Go with your friends, it is way more fun. Then you don't have to worry about any awkward slow dances. Trust me, it's better this way.
Don't be afraid to apply to your dream school. You never know unless you try and who knows maybe you'll get in. On that note, pick the college that is right for you, not where I'm going, or your other friends are going or where your family thinks you should go. Pick the one you want, after all you're the one stuck there.
Don't worry if your friend group falls apart. If it does, oh well, that's how I found you. My best friends. High school friendships normally don't last, but those that do are special.
One last thing. Thank you. Thank you for showing me not all underclassman suck, for being my cheerleaders, my rocks, and my best friends. As I leave college, please know I'm not going to leave you behind. Even though I am far away, I'll always be there for you. I'm only a phone call away.
Love,
Your favorite college freshman
