To My Best Friend When You're Sad

When you're sad, I'll never know what to say.

To My Best Friend When You're Sad
Brooke Starkweather

I'll never have the words for you. When you call me crying your eyes out or run over to my house upset because someone's actions spoke louder than words. I'll never be able to say anything that will take the pain away. I'll never be able to hold you tight enough. When you cry, I cry. When you're angry, I'm angry, and when you're hurt, baby girl so am I. I feel every inch of pain with you. I sit around sometimes thinking about if your day got better or if you're still upset about what your ex-boyfriend said to you. I promise I want nothing more than to just take the pain away and make you happy. Sometimes, I succeed. Sometimes, I help you see the silver lining and we laugh and talk about good times, but when you go home, I know you feel alone and all your lonely thoughts begin to creep back in. So in that time, when you are alone, keep in mind a few things:

You're beautiful

I don't just mean your shiny blonde hair or your sparkly smile. I mean your natural ability to light up the room as soon as you walk through the door. Your soul is so genuine.

You're not alone

Even though you sometimes feel alone, you are NEVER alone. I want you to know that no matter what I'm doing and no matter where I'm at, I am here for you. No, there is nothing else I would rather be doing or need to be doing. If you're hurt, this is what I am doing now. Please, don't feel so bothered by yourself. I enjoy being your best friend. You need me to listen? I'm here. Do you need advice? I'm here. You need to just go get some food and cry a little? I AM HERE. I'll always be here. We're connected ways in which no one can explain, so you'll never have to be alone again.

About that guy

He's not worth it. You don't have to beg or plead for ANYONE to be in your life. You are a gem, girl. An absolutely stunning pearl and it's not your fault if he can't calculate the value. I feel sorry for him. He has no idea what he has let slip through his hands. I cannot wait for the day that you bring a guy to me and he loves you in all your awkwardness and insecurity. I hope that he'll come soon and when he does, you'll finally know what it is to love without feeling you're not good enough. Because love, you are more than good enough. You are the best kind of human; glowing in all of your radiance.

To the nay sayers

No matter where you are in life, someone will be right there waiting to drag you down. They'll be ready to laugh when you fall and people will feel bad for you but few will walk over and pick you up. Fill your life with those kind of people because you will never get away from them, but please, please, please, do not let them win. I'm scared to live in a world that would have to be so dark to steal the light away from a beautiful soul such as yours.

When your friend wasn't a friend to you

I'm sorry. It's hard to be as sweet and as kind as you are sometimes because people will take advantage of you so fast, especially the ones who are the closest to you. In the future, don't let one person ruin your other relationships and don't take it personally. Remember, people are not against you, they are just for themselves.

I'm sorry

I am so sorry if I have ever hurt you. I'm sorry if I ever made you feel alone, abandon, sad, or any other emotion other than blessed. I've not always been the most of anything. I've always just been what I can be, and I pray that I have been enough for you.

You have always been there. I will never forget everything you have done for me and I will never be able to thank you for it all. I hope that when you think of me, you only have good, pure thoughts. All of the memories that we've made fill my heart and whenever you're sad, I just want you to know that someone is sad with you. You inspire me every day to laugh and just be myself. God has truly blessed me with you and I am so thankful for you every day - even when you're sad. One last thing I need you to remember....cry if you need to, bawl your eyes out even, and break down if you have to..just remember that you have to get back up, dust yourself off, put your lipstick back on, accessorize with your prettiest smile and go back at it again and again until you are beaming with satisfaction. I believe in you.

I love you so much,

Your best friend.

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
