To My Best Friend Steph

You've changed my life in so many ways!

To My Best Friend Steph
Telisa Gardner

Dear Dream Catcher,

I begin this letter by saying how much I love you and how much I value our friendship. Aside from being my sister and little in Omega, I want to say that you have been the best thing that's ever happened to me at Concordia. You never judged me and you always made me feel whole. Words cannot express how much you mean to me. I'll miss seeing you around the cord but I know that God has greater things planned for you.

Lehman has been blessed to have you in the fall. I know that you will excel at anything and everything you decide to do. You have helped me in ways that you can't even imagine. Sometimes when I'm feeling down, you know somehow, and you come and comfort me just by saying hello or giving me a hug. You didn't know it at the time and you probably still don't know it, but I always valued having you around.

I know that I will survive my senior year without you because you have given me the strength and confidence to end this year with a bang. I need to tell you that I am also proud of you! The girl I met my sophomore year has changed and grown exponentially. You were shy at first but you have come out of your shell and graced the world with your presence. You are beautiful and wonderful inside and out and I'm so thankful to have you in my life. I only pray that you will never forget how great you are. Never let the demons in this society change your perception of yourself. Never let someone demean you or tell you things they only wish they can become. You're perfect just the way you are!

As I write this letter I cry because I know that we have to go our separate ways. I know that I will see you again, I just wanted you to know that it broke my heart when you decided to go to Lehman. You don't know how much of an impact you made on my life. I know that you will come and visit me and I look forward to it, I honestly can't wait. Thank you for visiting me this summer and telling me about your awesome vacation. I'm happy that I was able to guide you in the right direction because I watched you grow up and mature over these past few years. I want you to know that I'm grateful to have been a part of your life.

The girl I see now has great confidence is happy and has light shining through her eyes. The girl I see today smiles more than usual and laughs often. When I look at myself I also see how you've impacted my life. I see a girl who is more loving and friendly. I see a girl who loves life and is making an effort to convince herself that she is also important. I finally have balance and stability in my life and I am no longer afraid to take risks, make mistakes, or afraid to ask for help. Thank you, Steph for changing my life and I only hope that you know I am always here for you.

Love ya lots,

Dingan

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
