Dear Best Friend,

You just finished college and are ready for the real world. I can’t begin to express how proud I am of our accomplishments. You have been such an inspiration to me with everything you do. I have never seen someone work so hard during my college career, and I admire your perseverance through any hard struggles you have faced. You have been a very big role model in my life, and have motivated me into working hard like you have.

Thank you for being there whenever I needed you. Thank you for wiping away every tear you saw leave my eyes, and bringing them back in joy by making me laugh so hard I am on the floor crying. You never let me be upset over the little things in life; you have shown me to appreciate them in the best ways possible. You have made me believe I can get through any challenge I face while in college. Thank you for being the sunshine to my cold rainy days.

We have shared the greatest memories in a small amount of time, which I will cherish forever. The things we have laughed at, the bond we have shared, the memories we’ve made are all going to be in my heart. I’m going to miss our movie nights and spontaneous trips to the stores around town. Whether our conversations happen in the dorm, or during short car rides, we have the best heart-to-hearts. Thank you for being so understanding and letting me rant about my stressful times during college.

Saying goodbye is always hard, but you have assured me that I will be able to create more memories with you even if you have graduated before me. I have loved watching you make the world a better place while in college, and can’t wait to see what you do for it while out of college. I could not be more proud of you and the beautiful soul you have within you. You have a heart made of gold, and I know it will shine even more with every kind act you do.

I wish you the best of luck at “adult-ing.” I can’t wait to hear about all your success and how you will use your degree to do what you love. The faith and confidence I have in you is more than you will ever know.

Thank you for everything. As Hannah Montana has sung to us in her song “Wherever I Go": “I know I’ll miss you but we’ll meet again someday.” I know we will, and I can’t wait to see you again.

Love always,

Your lifelong friend

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
