To My Best Friend 500 Miles Away

Thank you for being the best friend a girl could ask for.

Dear Nikki,

There are so many different ways I could start this out. I could say how much I miss you, I could reminisce about old times, or I could just say thank you for always being there. But in reality, none of those are good enough for a friendship like ours.

When we did live close to each other, we were literally attached at the hip. Whether it was riding the bus together, playing Polly Pockets, or picking on your little sister (sorry Sabrina!), it was always Cassie and Nikki. But then the day came that I was there while you were long gone. We tried to stay in touch, but at that time cell phones were not common and we both had our own lives to worry about.

Then 10 years went by with only a hey here or there.

But did that change anything between us? Absolutely not. When we finally saw each other over a decade later, we talked like we were kids again, laughed until we cried, and then really did cry when it was time for you to go back home again. We have seen each other a couple of times since then, but our friendship remains as strong as ever. Even four states and 500 miles between us cannot stop the bond we have as friends.

But there are times when I wish we didn't live so far away from each other. I have friends here of course, but you are the one person that will always be there. You are my person. The distance does make me value our friendship more, but man do I miss you!

Even though we only see each other once a year at the most, your are still my closest friend (practically sister) and I love you dearly. You have two kids now and I am in my third year of college, but our lives will always be joined. I cannot thank you enough for being the best friend you are.

Love,

Cassie

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

We all have a love hate relationship with winter, lets be real here. The snow makes people forget how to drive, its cold, the roads are bad, and chances are, you will be spending a lot more money than you do during the other months of the year. If you’re from the Midwest, it seems to be that winter lasts for what feels like forever. But despite the struggles that winter brings, there are so many things to love about it.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
