To My Aunt, Who Is Way More Than Just An Aunt
Atika Hemani

To my aunt, my beautiful aunt,

You are someone who is more than just an aunt. You are a motivator, a best friend, and an inspiration. Throughout my life, you have been my biggest inspiration and these past few years have made me realize how blessed I am to have you in my life. Ever since I was little you have shown me nothing but love and compassion.

I love spending time with you and making memories. I love getting to know how life was like for you when you were a kid and l love hearing all childhood stories you have about my mom. Even the little things like our shopping sprees and gossip sessions to our mini vacations and heart to hearts. You are always up for an adventure, whether it is ziplining in the harsh, cold winter or parasailing in the breezy, hot summer. These are the memories I will cherish the most.

Thank you for being my biggest supporter all throughout high school and college! I know I have the support of my parents but sometimes you need someone else's opinion and I know all my secrets are safe with you. I have always felt that I can confide in you and you have always told me the truth even though sometimes it is not what I wanted to hear. I can be open and honest with you and at the end of the day, I know you will love me the same.

There are numerous qualities that you possess that I try to emulate. You have such passion and drive in what task life hands you and you never take no for an answer. I love when people find out that I am your niece and they have such a huge smile on their faces because they too can express how amazing of a person you are. You have truly made an impact on so many people by helping them when they are struggling with certain moments in their life.

I love hearing the stories about your mom and my grandma and even though I never met her, I can see her in you. The way you describe her willingness to succeed in her career and her love and compassion for her family, I feel she would have been so proud of the woman you are today. You give your all to your family and your community and I too hope I can do the same.

Even though you have two kids of your own, thank you for always treating me like a daughter. You have always spoiled me and have always said yes when my parents say no. Your love is unconditional and I know you will always be there through the good times and the bad. Thank you for being a mom, best friend, and an aunt all in one.

I can not wait for the next 2 a.m. heart to heart when you come to visit again! Sending all my love to you.

Your daughter and favorite niece,

Atika

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
