The time has come ladies & gentlemen of the class of 2018.
Time to invite the cousins you haven't seen in years to graduation and invite Grandma to take prom pictures to put in the frame she bought from Party City.
Everything is falling into place for the end of the school year but what will your summer consist of? A few graduation parties, a few lectures with your parents as you prepare for your first semester away at university.
What's next for you?
That's your decision and I believe this is one of the most significant transition periods in our lives.
Saying goodbye to old friends, old habits & old responsibilities and embracing them, not replacing them.
Just when you feel like you're becoming the most comfortable with yourself, life begins to test you the most.
This summer you'll experience a shit-ton of nostalgia, and it's a good sign. You're reflecting upon what you've went through in the past to bring you to where you are today.
Throughout the next two-months you're going to make terrible decisions, and you better make the best of it because in August you'll be an adult.
Which means every decision & judgement you make will effect you first, before Mommy & Daddy can cover your backside.
Luckily, it's a brand-new start in a new setting.
Use this summer to prepare for that adjustment.
Talk to new people, take new risks.
Because that's all your first year of college will consist of.
As I finish mine, I've taken in so many lessons that I didn't receive in the classroom & I truly owe it all to the summer before.
It may sound unrealistic but trust me, during these next two months you'll begin to try things you've never even considered. With those situations, you'll learn the most about yourself & those around you.
There will be days when you want to call off that summer job to make your best friend's graduation party and you won't be able to.
There will be days when you have to leave the party early to go home and take care of your priorities.
As much hate you'll receive for being that person, you'll love yourself more when you realize you made the adult decision and this will be natural to you when August rolls around.
Many of you will receive this message and many will not but it'll be easy to tell who really took advantage of this summer when October rolls around and you have one, big question to ask yourself:
"Do I go to this darty or study for my mid-term I have Monday?"
P.S.
The darty lasts 3 hours. How long will a D in Humanities be on your student record?
Forever.
