Dear high school me,

I never realized there would come a time when high school seemed so far away. The person you are now does not even compare to who you will become in the next few years. You spent a lot of time wishing you could fast forward to bigger and better things. I'm here to tell you to slow down.

College is an amazing experience but in its due time. Take the opportunity to love high school. Make new friends. Go to sporting events. Join more clubs. Make the most of your four years there. Stop dreaming of your life years down the road and start loving the life you're living in right now.

Go hug mom and dad. They're so close to you every single day. Don't take for granted living at home. You don't have to understand everything they do or why they do it, but you need to understand that your time at home is limited. In a few years, you're going to move out and only get to spend holidays and breaks with them. Soak up every little moment you can before they turn into memories.

Stop being so hard on yourself. You are beautiful inside and out and the earlier you realize that the easier the next few years will be for you. You make mountains out of molehills far too often, then you try to move those mountains yourself. Take a breath and realize your value. Love who you are in the moment and not who you picture yourself to be "when you grow up."

You are so much stronger than you give yourself credit for. High school won't be easy for you. Your big sister moves out, mom gets sick, and many other obstacles along the way. But trust yourself and trust in God because you kick some serious ass in these next few years. Hold steady in your faith and make sure your conversations with God last longer than the ones you have over text message. You will be successful in anything you set your mind to, so stop worrying whether or not you're good enough. Stop being so mean to yourself. Stop putting yourself so low on your own list that you forget to give attention to you. Stop wondering if this life will turn out to be exactly what you hope it will be and start living it. You're going to surprise yourself every step of the way.

Love, me.

P.S. Keep rocking that purple owl lunch box, girl.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
