At long last, welcome home

Dear Future Sisters
Mollie Madigan

Dear future sisters,

I know I can speak for the other sisters in our sorority as well as myself when I say that we are so excited to have you as new members. We've been waiting for you all to join us and now you're finally here! Personally, I've experienced so much growth in this sisterhood of ours and I can't wait to watch you grow and shine as you find your place here and leave your mark too.

You're going to make so many memories with us and with each other. I honestly hope you're as excited as I was when I first started rushing to meet all my new sisters, to get a big sister and a family on campus that i could go to, to feel like a part of something incredible. Get ready for some of the best times with some of the most high quality people you'll ever meet!

Joining our sorority was one of the best decisions of my life. I'm so happy I decided to rush and I'm so incredibly honored that the active sisters saw enough potential in me to extend me a bid and welcome me home with huge hugs and the biggest smiles, as if we had known each other for years already. My new member process was stressful but so rewarding, learning about our national history from when we were founded to now and everything in-between and you're going to learn all of it too! Don't worry, it's not bad at all! Just take it one day at a time and enjoy every second of the process because you're only a new member once and the other side, while fun, isn't the same. It's thrilling to wonder who your big is and reading clues from her for the week leading up to reveal night, and the joy that comes with finally seeing her and knowing who she is is indescribable. Ask any one of our other sisters and I can almost guarantee they'll tell you they were overjoyed.

Get ready for formals where everyone looks like princesses, philanthropy events where everyone is having too much fun to remember that this is actually volunteering and a million other amazing memories you'll spend with us and each other.

(Also pro-tip: look extra nice that night because Big/Little night pictures are forever and you want to look your absolute best for family pics and pics of you and your big!)

See what I mean?

You are in for the best time of your life, and as I'm sure you'll hear many times in the coming weeks, "it's not four years, it's for life" because being a part of this group is a lifelong thing. You'll meet older sisters from years before even me that could be your GGGGGBig (you'll get to know all of this crazy sorority lingo, I promise! It took me a little bit of time too but we're here to help you figure it out!) and you'll feel like you've known them forever. That's the beauty of sisterhood!

So welcome home new sisters, and I'm so happy you're finally here!

Sincerely,

Your brand new sister.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
