With Mother's Day approaching, I wanted to take the time to appreciate my mother because I don't do it nearly enough.
Moms are superheroes. They are therapists, cooks, maids, problem-solvers, carpenters, painters, gardeners, accountants, teachers, life coaches, best friends, role models - everything under the sun. They do it all and they do it well. They do it without complaining, demanding praise or expecting anything in return. They do it because they have a heart that runs much deeper than the rest of us. They do it because they wouldn't have it any other way.
My mom is hands down one of the best people I know, which I could never say nearly enough, but I should try anyway. When the light in my life shines as bright as ever, she is there with me, celebrating all of my happiness with me. When I am sitting in the dark, cold loneliness of rock bottom, she lets me cry until my eyes run dry. Then she either leaves me to find the light on my own, making me a stronger, more independent woman, or she pulls me up by the hands and guides me in the right direction, showing me that asking for help and allowing myself to be helped are not always bad things.
It's often easy to forget that moms have their own lives with triumphs and struggles. It's easy to forget that mom's may need someone, as well, although they will never ask. But even the strongest people can feel weak.
In your darkest times, Mom, I hope you know you can come to me, as well as on your brightest days.
I can't speak for all moms, because I know I'm blessed with the best, but her selflessness, kindness, warmth, and love are what make her the greatest woman in the world. I know I can go to her with anything and everything and she will be there for me.
Mom, I know I'm your most challenging child, but thank you for never giving up on me. You're my superhero. On your day, and every day, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for who you are and what you do for me and our family every single day. We all love you more than we could ever express.
