To Every Clay Jensen Out There,

I want to tell you thank you. Thank you for loving her. I know she couldn't say it, and she can't now, but know she felt the same way. I may not have ever attempted what Hannah Baker successfully completed, but I have felt similar feelings. I have felt broken, and shrouded in darkness. I have felt hopeless, and vulnerable, and without any chance of living. But then you showed up.

Thank you for being the one small glimmer of light when all she saw was darkness. Thank you for fighting for her when she couldn't fight for herself. Thank you for loving her, even when she was a victim in the eyes of everyone else. Thank you for seeing her. Thank you for realizing that she was worth it, and that she was a living, breathing person. Thank you for believing her, when no one else did.

I know what it is like to be assaulted. I know what it is like for your soul to be broken. I know what it's like for my life to be a constant reminder of my pain. I know what it's like to feel like a helpless victim. I know what it's like to feel powerless, and lifeless. It's like I'm not even broken. But you see us as human. You see us as living, and healing, and fighting. And you never let us think otherwise. You taught us how to feel again- you taught us that it's okay to be okay.

Please, continue to love us "Hannah Baker's". Yes, we are broken, and yes, we feel hopeless sometimes. But you give us hope. You are heaven-sent. Continue to love us, and please- tell us you love us. Because we need to hear it. We need to be reminded that we are worth it. We need to be reminded that there are good people out there. We need to be held, to be kissed, to be taken care of. We need to feel healthy physical affection, because all we know is the touch of evil.

Please continue to see the good in us. We may be broken, but we have a heart. A HUGE heart. And that heart is capable of so much love and life- we just need to be healed. And we're trying- please, know and recognize that we're trying.

Please continue to show us that there is joy in life. Take us to parties, look at the stars with us, and go on adventures. Show us that life is so much more than just sitting still.

Thank you for not giving up on us. Thank you for loving us, even after everything we went through. Thank you for knowing that we aren't victims. Thank you for seeing the hope in us, and for being the light we need. And, please- don't give up on us. Love us back to life.

Sincerely,
Every Living Hannah Baker

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
