A Letter To The Brother I Miss All The Time

Where do I start?

A Letter To The Brother I Miss All The Time
Alex Sobczak

Brother, I feel like I have so much to say to you. I see you fairly frequently; I don’t live too far away; I text you to catch up sometimes; and yet, I feel like I haven’t recently told you everything you deserve to hear.

You’re so talented. I know I often tell you that (and I tell others that while I’m bragging about you), but I’m not sure you realize the extent of what I mean. You do so many things, and you do them all well. You somehow manage to be knowledgeable about and dedicated to so many different things, whether they be responsibilities or simply hobbies. You find the time to care about everything in your life, and you excel at them, too. You’re always looking to improve at things and learn more and more about things. It’s impressive.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Again, you do a lot, but I don’t want you to feel too pressured. You’re doing great. And even if you weren’t, it’s okay to not being doing great at things all the time. Things will always come together and resolve in the end. All you have to do in life is your best, brother.

I’m so glad we’ve gotten closer. The more time passes, the closer we get. Back in the day, we argued until we drove our parents crazy. Now, we follow each other around the house when the other isn’t paying enough attention to us, and we confide in each other like nobody’s business. I look forward to our futures.

I’m here for you. I know you’re the strong one between us, but I would honestly fight somebody for you. I’m here for you if you need support; I’m here for you if you need to vent; I’m here for you if you need advice; I’m here for you if you need help; I’m here for you if your friends need anything; I’m here for you if you need someone during the bad times; I’m here for you if you need someone during the good times; I’m here for you if you need me to defend you. There’s nothing wrong with needing somebody in your corner. There might be something wrong with my misplaced confidence in myself to be able to fight somebody, but that’s a topic we can discuss at a later time, if need be.

You’re really funny. From your deadpan exaggerations that make me cry, to your cheesy jokes that make you cry, to your snarky remarks that you really should be careful to not say around people who might not chuckle the way I do, to your updated memes (*eye roll*), you make me laugh. And you’re also good at writing funny Snapchat captions, which helps me—someone who is decidedly not good at writing funny Snapchat captions—out.

Above all, I want you to be happy. Right now, in the future, whenever. I know you have a great life ahead of you, and I hope happiness is at its center.

I love you,

Your sister

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
