This is for anyone that feels lost or alone.

To Everyone That Feels Lost

Feeling lost can mean a few different things. It can mean that you don't know what you want to major in at college, or it can mean that you feel alone. Being lost can mean that you just lost your job and don't know what else to do. It can mean that you have no idea what you want to do with your life in general.

As a freshman college student, I feel lost. I don't know for sure what I want to do as a career in the future or what I can do with the Bachelor's degree in media arts that I'm working to get. I am unsure of what my skills are or what I'm even somewhat good at. Sometimes it's hard to tell who my real friends are and which ones have drifted out of my life for good. I try to identify myself, saying that I am an artist, a media arts major, a photographer, a writer, and so on. When I think about it though, I don't consider myself to be especially skilled in any of those things. I don't know what I can do particularly well that I can make into a career for myself. What do I do after college? Will anyone ever hire me for a job that is any better than a minimum wage job that doesn't require a degree? Will I have gone to college for nothing? Where do I want to move to in the future? Do I want to stay where I am now? Do I want to move to another state? Do I want to live in a huge city, or do I want to live somewhere quieter and more peaceful? I wonder about all of these things constantly and I feel like I'm drowning in all of these incessant worries about who, what, and where I am going to be in my life and how I am going to get there. I feel lost.

With that being said, there are some things in my life that are helping me steer myself in the right direction and making me feel like I'm not entirely lost. Being a writer and editor-in-chief for my community on The Odyssey has made me realize some of my skills that I didn't know I had before. Going to college made me meet new people that are a significant part of my life, and it's giving me something to work towards. Whether I find a career in media arts after I graduate or not, at least I will know that I worked for my degree and that I accomplished something. So far, my college experience has made me feel less lonely and I feel like I might be starting to head in the right direction.

Almost everyone feels lost at some point in their life. If you feel like you're lost, find something or someone that makes you feel more confident in yourself and what direction your life is going in. Your friends, your family, your job, your education, your hobbies, or anything else that is important to you can help you go down the right path. Whatever it is, find those one or two things in your life and stick with them. You'll figure it out, and when you do, you won't feel so lost.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
