To The People Who Loved Me When I Couldn’t Love Myself, Thank You

A thank-you letter to those who have given me the love, strength, and courage to be brave in life and love myself when I couldn't do it myself. Thank you for believing in me.

To The People Who Loved Me When I Couldn’t Love Myself, Thank You

Thank you. Thank you for showing me that this body of bones, muscles, and fat is beautiful and worthy of love. Thank you for convincing me when I was so stubborn and adamant that I was too heavy, too dumb, too unworthy of love, too useless that these were all my fears instead of reality. Thank you for being by my side and staying with me, having someone there when times were tough kept me brave and sane. These all mean so much than you can ever know.

The words, time, love, strength, and courage you've given me have made an invaluable difference and your loyalty and patience are things I'll forever be grateful for. I can't say thank you enough.

With your help, I was able to push myself up and with your constant reassurance and love, I was able to understand what love and healthy relationships were supposed to be. I will never understand how you put so much faith in me but thank you for choosing me. I will work hard to be someone you will be proud to know. I will be the best person I can be, and I will stop putting myself down and start to believe in myself. I thank you for all your time and patience and love. You've helped me grow into the person I am proud of today.

I am doing really well now. I have worked hard and am happy where I am for once and am happy about myself. I am someone I am proud of and have the confidence to say those words proudly. I have accepted my flaws are just as much a part of me as my physical body, but they do not make me any less beautiful. I am where I am because of you. Thank you for everything. I hope you're doing well, even if we don't talk anymore. Thank you for everything.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
