We all need a little TLC every now and then, right? Then why not give it to ourselves? With so much going on each and every day, it becomes really easy to lose any time truly devoted to ourselves. The bustle and hustle of busy schedules and deadlines often make us forget the importance of “me time.” So if you’re in need of a little me, myself and I phase, here are just a few ideas to get you started.
Take a yoga class
Even though you may not be able to make your head touch your toes, the purpose of a yoga class is simple - to relax. So breath in, and breathe out.
Take yourself on a spending spree
And preferably not one you will regret later. That dress you’ve been eyeing for over a month now: buy it. Reward yourself, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Do something you really enjoy
Biking, singing, skydiving. Whatever it may be, it’s important to indulge in the activities you really enjoy. These activities may also become a creative outlet that allows you to escape even if only for a little while.
Explore the great outdoors
For someone who typically HATES the outdoors, I must admit that being surrounded by Mother Nature is actually really relaxing. I’m not saying that you have to go all Crocodile Hunter and get down and dirty, though. But taking a walk in the park or even sitting in your yard may offer some great relaxation time.
Write it down
Oftentimes, we don’t believe something until we see it. So start putting all the things that make you happy down on paper. Compile lists (Things that make me happy, things to be thankful for, etc.) that force you to look at all the things that bring you joy. Write down all the things you love about yourself (nothing wrong with a little self-appreciation).
Focus on the positive
It’s easy for us to get bogged down by all the negative things going on in our lives. However, when you switch your perspective, and only focus on the things that make you happy, it will become clear that—in most cases—the good outweighs the bad. So what, you were late to class today? But didn’t you just get an A on that test you were so worried about?
Life can get pretty busy (and tough) at times and that can really start to take a toll on a person. It’s alright to be a little selfish sometimes because we all need a pick-me-up every now and then. Focusing on—and creating—the bright side of life can help you provide yourself with some much needed tender love and care.
