Well, friends, it's holiday season, and you know what that means - sooooo much sparkly, shimmery, and metallic clothes! Of course, this isn't the only time of year you see people wearing these things, but at no other time do such outfits feel so wholly appropriate as they do in the tiny blinking patches of light cast by Christmas tree lights and candles.
I'm excited every year when the holiday fashion sensibility takes over, but, for some reason, this year is producing some particularly fantastic examples. So, in case you too would like to join the shimmering holiday fashion season, here I've curated some of my favorite holiday fashion pieces just for you! Enjoy!
The shimmery pleated fabric of this skirt is so exciting - I love the texture it adds, almost a pattern in an otherwise patternless outfit. Of course, combined with a sweater or sweatshirt it's also ridiculously comfortable. The midi length means it's short enough to stay out of the way, but long enough to avoid being constantly wary of bending over or twirling too much. In a shimmery skirt like this during the holidays, of course, twirling is an unescapable eventuality, so I consider its safe twirlability a good thing.
There's something about layers of sheer fabric that takes on a shimmery quality of its own. I love the victorian femininity of this shirt, so creative layered under a spaghetti-strap dress as an alternative to the more common t-shirt under such a dress. It has just that little bit extra sophistication that we like for the holidays, and the polkadots in this example echo the fluffy snowflakes falling outside.
Recently, I've just been obsessed with textured flowing pants like this. They arrived in my life in the fall, and I feel like, if you're going for a casual holiday look, they're perfect! This pair has a certain amount of sparkle to it in that same pleated fabric I praised earlier, and goes so perfectly with a comfy t-shirt and sneakers. I, personally, would also throw some of my best patterned holiday socks on too, peeking out above the high-tops. The more holiday cheer, the merrier!
Now, this style is not for the faint of heart. This is a perfect example of someone who saw everything about holiday fashion that's typically confined to separate outfits and decided that, no, no one could tell them what to do; they'd have it all in one outfit, thank you very much. It's got sequins, sparkles, fur, metallic shine, polka-dots - all wrapped together into one of the most exciting outfits I've encountered yet. If this style is something you'd like to try out, go ahead! I support you.
And, finally, we have this pairing I stumbled across on Pinterest, a lovely menswear/feminine combo that makes my heart happy. There's nothing like balancing a pink, girly, frilly-edged skirt with gold oxfords, and seeing the two come together in such a pleasing way. I think this is a season for playing around with unexpected skirt and shoes combinations as the snow inspires us to avoid the usual strappy sandals and heels.
