As you scroll through Facebook, you've probably seen at least one meme, one copy and paste chain, one "please like and share," or one video with a ridiculous title, and it probably has something to do with a political issue. Honestly, I think they are tacky and unappealing, and I believe that they actually turn people away. The only people that like them are the people that have a strong opinion on the subject, and to be honest, I don't care about it. And for the 50th time, I know that you support this or that.
One of the most annoying copy-and-paste chains is "I stand behind you in line at the store with a smile on my face." This chain is about gun control and concealed carry, and I have recently seen it about a hundred times on my Facebook feed because of the Orlando shooting. Does anyone else find that part of the sentence completely creepy? This part doesn't have anything about a gun in it. Congrats on defending yourself and others if there happens to be a situation, but it's not a secret if you post on Facebook about how you carry a gun with you.
Here is the whole paragraph, but you probably already know what I'm talking about.
With most "please like and share" posts, I'm like why should I? I think it makes the post look like an advertisement. With political issues, it's basically screaming, "Yeah I support this, and I'd like to see who else does, too." With posts about sick children and dead soldiers, I shouldn't have to show the world I care about them. I should know in my heart that it's a terrible thing, and it obviously is. Are you like the media, showing every bad and sad thing that's happened? With some posts, I don't even have words for it because it's that ridiculous. For example:
Do you know what this post does? It doesn't give a situation where this happened. It shows what people may think Sharia Law is. It shows that this person is scared. It shows that this person has so many stereotypes about a Muslim in their head. It shows that they don't support refugees. Why would share this sort of thing? To try to scare more people so you don't feel alone? It shows that this person doesn't care what they put into the world. It shows the ridiculousness people believe in.
Other things I see are videos about how this Republican schooled this Democrat in a talk or vice versa. One crazy video I saw is titled, "Why liberals support radical Islam." I watched it, and it was a click-bait video that was mostly about how Republicans think that all liberals think about it how they're oppressed. And it showed that people don't think that radical Islam doesn't exist and people who support radical Islam are—surprise—radical Islamists.
Instead of posting the very tacky political posts, post more videos about cute animals, amazing stories, cool experiences, and funny jokes and use Facebook for the main purpose, which is sharing the aspects of your life, not what you think about other people or issues. You can have debates with people you actually care about in person. People don't want to see the 50 posts about how you support this and that, because we got it the first time.
