1. Make a goal

Making a goal seems like a cliche thing that everyone tells you to do, but it actually helps you stay motivated. I like to make a semester goal, a one year goal, and a 5 year goal. These goals help me stay on track and help me to think about every action I make. If you really want this goal, then making the necessary actions and steps will be a lot easier.

I would also recommend actually writing them down and putting them somewhere where you can look at them everyday. it is easy to not think about them all of the time, but this way, they are always in your face motivating you to be the best you can be!

2. Goals don't have to be big.

The goals that you make don't necessarily have to be huge. They could be small things like finishing your homework by 11:00 p.m. or making sure you have a healthy lunch that day. They don't have to be a whole life plan. It's okay to not know what you wanna do with your life yet, so until you do, make small goals that can help you become successful in the short term.

3. Focus on yourself.

It is easy to look at others and think about everything they are doing with their lives and compare it to yours. A friendly competition is fun sometimes, but in order to be where you want to be, you must focus on yourself. While you are staring at this person become successful, you're giving up precious time to be doing things that make YOU successful.

4. Stay humble.

When you are thriving and everything you do is working out for you, make sure to stay humble. Think about where you started and don't forget it. Success can get to your head, and that's when things start to fail. You still must work hard for what you want, and you still must keep your end goal in mind.

5. Keep going.

Times get tough and it is so, so easy to just throw in the towel. Life is going to throw obstacles at you, and you're going to trip over a lot of them. You have to pick yourself back up and keep going. Failures mean that there is going to be the success soon. They don't mean that there is no point in trying anymore.

6. Continue to work hard.

Once you reach success, it is still important to keep on grinding. It is easy to start to slack off because you feel done. When you reach your overarching goal, make another one! Anything can always get better. Anything can grow more. You should want to reach your highest potential.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
