As summer whines down you prepare for your next exciting chapter of your life; college. While you go buy all the essentials you need for your dorm room and school supplies, including food and probably an entire new wardrobe - check out this article.

While college has been talked up to be the best years of your life because you get to be on your own for the first time, make new friendships that will last a lifetime, and experience an exciting college lifestyle, you must keep in mind that you are there for a reason and that reason is to obtain a degree to help you achieve your dream job or career. You are paying to go to this school for your education so as tired as you may be from the night before, try not to skip class, not only are you missing out on information that could be on a test; but you are also wasting money by not going to class. Another tip would to help make your freshman year great, would be to find friends that are in the same classes with you and form a study group. If someone does not know what they are doing on a certain topic and you find yourself a group of people that are in the same class, someone is bound to know and help you. As well as go to your professors if you do not understand something. Now some of you may be intimidated by going straight up to them after class, if that is the case just send them an email to meet one on one and they will help you because just like you want to see yourself succeed, they as well want you to achieve your goals.

Another tip would be to take advantage of all the help areas that are on campus, including tutoring labs where people that either took the class before or is in the class currently can help you if you struggle. As well as go to the writing labs that may be around campus, it is always helpful to have a second opinion yo help achieve the best grade possible. While we are on the topic of school work, there is this little thing that everyone suffers from and that is procrastination. I admit even I have trouble finding the energy to do some of the assignments that are really simple and putting them off to the last minute. A huge tip would be to get started on the assignment right away! By getting an early start on the assignment it helps you to remain stress free and from staying up until 3 in the morning trying to finish it before your class. As well as you are bound to have more homework that is piled up on top of the assignment you have so by starting early you will have enough time to finish your other assignments as well as the one that is long term. If you are stressed out about how much work you will have, because lets be honest college assignments are harder and there are more assignments that need to be done than high school. So if you are stressed out about how much work you have, take one assignment at a time.

Another tip to have the best freshman year at college would be to get involved with clubs or sports teams or intramurals around campus. Not only are you able to form other friendships besides the ones in the classroom, but you are also able to step away from all of the academics that is taking over your mind and you are able to relax and have fun. Take the opportunity to go to different events that are put on by some of the clubs around campus, not only do you get out of your dorm room and away from studying, but who knows maybe you will get the chance to win free stuff. Now at my school we have bingo, and that is a bug deal at my school because of the prizes we could get. From gift cards, to baskets to the highest prize which could be an ipad, you will pretty much see everyone from campus there. Take this time to introduce yourself to new people.

Another helpful tip would be to set a day to do laundry instead of waiting until you run out of clothes. The laundry rooms can be pretty crowded and sometime you have to wait a long time for a dryer and a washer. a few articles of clothing instead of 3 weeks worth of clothing you are able to quickly get your laundry done. As well as dishes, take my word for it and do not let your dishes go for weeks at a time, because some stains can be very hard to get off if you dont wash them right away.

While you are at college you may feel a little homesick or you may not depends on the type of person you are. I did not feel homesick at all really, but for those of you that do do not worry you are not alone there are others that feel homesick and one way to cure that would be to get involved around campus so that you are not just sitting in your room alone.

I hope you all have a fantastic year and good luck on the next four years of your life!

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
