Tips To Get Through Finals Week

May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor

Tips To Get Through Finals Week

1. Start studying as soon as possible

The more time you give yourself to study for a certain subject, the more prepared you will be, and you won't panic as much! This saves you from cramming the night beforehand.

2. Create a study schedule

Use your calendar or planner to plan out when you're going to study for a certain subject. Make sure to not spend too much time studying for one subject.

3. Take breaks!

Make sure you take at least twenty to thirty-minute breaks in between a study session. Go grab your phone and scroll through Instagram.

4. Make sure you get a lot of sleep when finals week starts approaching

I can't stress this tip enough! Sleep is super, super important! Try to get a solid 6-8 hours of sleep per night. I know this can be hard, but trust me, you're going to feel great!

5. Make your own study guides for your different courses

This is one of my personal favorite ways to study for different courses. It's a great way to outline all of the information you have learned in just a few pages.

6. Quiz yourself

Do you know of the beautiful invention, Quizlet? Well, it's about to become your best friend. On Quizlet, you're able to test yourself by playing different games, which can be really helpful!

7. Switch up the subjects you are studying

Make sure you study each subject in equal chunks (Ex: Study science for 20 min., then the next subject for another 20 min., etc.)

8. Eat healthy snacks when studying

Statistics show that if you eat foods such as dark chocolate, blueberries, or nuts, your brain will be able to retain more information.

9. Ask your professors questions

Email your professors with any review questions that you have! Remember, they get paid to help you, so use this resource!!

10. Go to review sessions/study group sessions

Review sessions/group study sessions are not for everyone, I get it. But, to some people, they are the best study tool! You can get a person's different perspective on the certain topic you're studying!

11. If your final is cumulative, study your previous tests

Sometimes (and often most of the time) your professors will put questions that were on previous tests, on the final exam!

12. Exercise before you start studying for your finals

Whether it be going to the gym, or exercising in your dorm room, exercising before you study is a great way for your brain to focus!

13. Change up your study location

Heck, the weather is nice people! Go outside!! We all definitely need some sunshine during finals week.

14. When you've hit that mental block and you suddenly start to grab your phone, go take a walk outside!

Sunshine is important!!!! USE IT

15. Take a moment to treat yourself

TREAT YO SELF. Especially during finals week! Take a break from studying, and get some ice cream! Ice cream is one of my weaknesses, so you'll definitely see me over at Pittsford Dairy during finals week lol.

16. Try not to procrastinate

Don't do it.

17. Set aside a night for friends

18. I know it's hard, but unplug

Turn off your phone, and throw it across the room if you have to.

19. Deep breaths, don't panic!

20. STAY POSITIVE

Good luck on finals everyone!!

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
