My first introduction to Jimmy Buffett was in elementary school when, my lifelong friend, Alex, got a pug whom her parents named "Buffett."
As we got older and WiFi became a necessity, I remember having to connect to her home router which was named "Parrot Head."
Even later down the road, when we began to drive, I was always greeted by the "FINS" sticker on Alex's rear window each and every time I pulled into her driveway.
In addition to Alex's influence, I had been to Margaritaville a few times and absolutely loved it.
So when I received a text from Alex asking if I'd go to the Jimmy Buffett concert with her the answer was a no-brainer... YES.
On July 5th, I rushed over from work to pick her up then headed to BB&T Pavilion in Camden where the fun began.
From the moment we began to search for a parking spot at the tailgate, it was obvious that we were noobs. We searched for about ten minutes before some seasoned veterans let us park between their tents.
From that moment on we were constantly acquiring knowledge that will definitely help us out at the next one.
With that being said, here are some tips for your next summer concert — whether it be for Jimmy Buffett and everything in between.
1. Be Social Or Set Up Your Own Site
Jenna DeLuca
It was obvious we were not prepared for this tailgate... however we did have the basics. Chairs, leis, festive cups and beverages.
What we didn't realize is that everyone around us would be grilling, playing cornhole or mixing drinks at their full service tiki bars underneath tents that were preventing them from getting too much sun.
My advice to anyone would be either go all out yourself or don't be afraid to make friends with someone who has an elaborate set up.
2. Take Off The Day Of & The Day After.
Be sure you have plenty of time to enjoy the tailgate and then time to recoup the next day.
Whether you enjoyed one too many margaritas or you lost your voice from singing along to all of your favorite songs... your body will thank you for this one.
3. Make Friends!
Jenna DeLuca
Once you start socializing you'll realize that everyone at this event is just one big Buffett loving family.
The moment we stepped out of the car we were greeted by our neighbors. One of which took us in as her "nieces."
(Shout out to our "Aunt" Shannon for all of her love, wisdom, and hospitality!)
So don't be afraid to make new friends and put your fins to the left and to the right with them mid-concert.
