Happy New Year! We're 12 days into 2017.

How often do you hear the saying, "New Year, New Me," or see social media post of people who profess all their plans and resolutions for the upcoming year?

How many of them have actually put their resolutions into action?

Below are five tips to make 2017 a remarkable year for you.

1. Stop or limit the posting

Ultimately, the only person who needs to know about your plans is you. We often get caught up in the lives of others and we depend on an audience which is why we tend to post our everyday lives on social media. This behavior is not only time consuming but it can stifle your goals because you're spending more time posting and less time doing. The best way to work on this habit is to take small steps. If you are addicted to social media, start with a fast from it.

Start by limiting yourself to maybe 30-45 minutes on the site, if that is unrealistic take a full day off of it and then slowly wean yourself off of it for awhile until you see your goals being met.

2. Get off the couch and out of your bed

The most unproductive people are those who lounge around. If you have a habit of lounging, sleeping, watching tv, eating all day and or being on your phone on social media then it's time to break the cycle. The great thing is that you still have time this month isn't quite over. When you feel yourself repeating this behavior, brush it off and remind yourself every day that you have many goals and you plan to stick to them. Giving yourself a pep talk never hurts.

3. Create a Vision Board

Most people who create vision boards often stick to them because it is right in front of them and it lies as a reminder to continue to strive for what they want. The best way to do this is to use the board and start with the goal that is most important to you. Don't try to tackle everything at once because that could cause you to give up. If it helps get with a circle of close friends or family, those who motivate you and make vision boards together.

4. Exercise and eat healthily

You've probably heard this many times, but it is true. People should know that eating healthy and exercising daily keeps the mind and body rejuvenated. The best way to feel good is to treat yourself well. Eating breakfast every morning, doing 20-minute workouts twice a day, taking in smaller portions of meals and choosing not to overindulge can keep your mind and body fresh. Our minds and bodies require maintenance.

If you're not eating properly and aren't exercising you probably won't be energized enough to reach your goals. Just as we wash our cars get the brakes checked and the oil change, we must maintain ourselves by investing in our best health. When you look and feel good you're more likely to work hard and the motivation comes easily.

5. Get to work

Using the vision board as a guide or a notebook with goals break down those goals to a doable task. Have a small goal every day, then build up weekly and monthly before 2017 is over with you will be amazed at all you have accomplished.

Don't let anyone discourage you and don't feed into negative people. Surround yourself with positive like-minded people and you will Not go wrong.

If you're reading this I wish you a Happy Healthy 2017!

It can happen but you have to get up and get to it, and YOU Can Do It.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
