All to often, as college students, do we find ourselves making a home out of our universities libraries during exam weeks. We have found our designated desks, a bag made full of snacks, and a backpack full of 100 pound materials. However, on those rare occasions where we do not have exams that we week, we enjoy the bonus time by doing simple nothing but catching up on our latest Netflix series or sleeping. However, time passes and exams will come creeping up close and closer, and the nights in the library start to grow longer and longer as we try to catch up on the materials that we so willingly ignored.
To avoid those all nighters and bags of Doritos, I compiled a list of 4 study tips to help you Ace that final.
GOOD LIGHTING
It starts get difficult to stay focus when you are constantly straining your eyes. I understand that dim lighting can help you relax and not stress out, but go turn that light on a few more notches. The bright light will make it easier to read to comprehend the material, and it will do wonders on your eyesight. Added bonus, it also will help you from taking those interim naps in between pages.
SHHHHHH!
It is so easy to become distracted, on a campus swarming with students. After a few passerby's and small talk later, it has been a hour since you last looked at your book. Try to avoid your schools universities center where people congregate when trying to find a place to study. It doesn't necessarily have to be the library, could be your dorm room, could be an empty classroom. When away from the crowd, your brain will be able to focus more on material.
EAT!
A few hours before studying, or before a test, make sure you prepare yourself a nice breakfast. The food will make you energized and ready to conquer the world. However, not all foods have the ability to produce that kind of effect. When trying to study, stay away from foods that make you tired, such as bananas, bread, cherries, and coffee. YES, COFFEE. The caffeine in coffee will keep you energized for an hour and a half, but soon will ware off and create a crash.
DON'T PROCRASTINATE
Like I had said in the beginning on the article, it is easy on the weeks that you don't have anything due to forget about studying. This will eventually create a problem when you begin cramming and stressing out when it comes closer to exam day. To avoid this issue, create two or three hours each day dedicated to reading and taking notes on one chapter. When you reach that point when you don't have any more readings, take your notes from the first week and start refreshing yourself. This way, material is still floating around in your head and you still won't get to miss out on any social activities going on. When you are studying, turn off your phone. Facebook and twitter can wait till bedtime.
