I’m one of those lucky people who live in Michigan that is experiencing extremely cold temperatures and having the world completely covered in snow right now. Unlike most of my fellow Michiganders though (and I know I will receive a lot of flak for this comment) I really enjoy the snow and cold. So Here are some tips to help get you through the cold temperatures.
- 1) Bundle up: Now I know this sounds obvious, and yes, I am basically an old person, but put all those leggings to good use. Instead of wearing your leggings as pants, wear them under a pair of jeans to keep your legs warm all day!
- 2) Hand warmers: After being a band geek for years in high school and marching in a Christmas parade that without fail was always on a freezing night in December, I learned of the miracles which are hand warmers. You can buy them at sports stores, and even in the outdoor section of some stores like Meijer, but keeping a few of these in your pockets during the winter will ensure that your hands stay toasty.
- 3) Be a Marshmallow: Put on leggings, then put on a tank top, then put on some knee-high socks, then put on a long-sleeved t-shirt, put on some jeans, and a sweater, and get another pair of socks out of your drawer and put those on your feet. When you think you’re done, put on a scarf, and put on some gloves, and another pair of gloves, and a coat. Then waddle around like the marshmallow you are, but at least you’re a toasted marshmallow instead of a cold one.
- 4) Drink more Coffee: Having a hot drink while you’re walking around doing your last-minute Christmas shopping will warm you up from the inside out, and not to mention it gives you something toasty to hold on to.
- 5) Extra Socks: Gather all of your socks, and put them all on. I mean it, go get all your socks, put them in a pile, and them put them all on your feet. Okay, I am exaggerating, but seriously, if you’re feet are cold it won’t matter if the rest of your body is sweating, so put on an extra pair or two.
- 6) Have fun: One of the best ways to stay warm is to accept the cold. Accept the cold and look for ways to have fun in it. When your sledding with your friends or ice-skating with your significant other you will be so focused on the fun your having that you’ll forget to even be cold.
