7 Tips To Stay Sane During Finals Week

In This Article:

With the end of the semester fast-approaching and finals week being just around the corner, it is incredibly easy to lose yourself in all the stress that comes along with this dreaded week. We often forget to take care of ourselves, both mentally and physically during this time because we are all focused on finishing up the semester on a high-note.

Here are 7 tips to help you maintain your sanity during the hell-week that is college finals...

1. Take study breaks

This is a big one. They are such an important role in achieving your potential and keeping your focus. Personally, if I'm dedicating an entire day to studying I like to take 20 minute breaks every 90 minutes. It is so helpful and I always feel way more productive when I take breaks!

2. Get out of your dorm

After spending a significant amount of time in the dorm studying, I start to feel anxious. There's something about the dorm room environment that encloses you in and makes me, personally, feel claustrophobic. If I have the time, I prefer to study at a cute coffee shop like Café Kubal or find a nice study room with a lot of window space (PROTIP: Haven Hall study room is amazing!!!).

3. Put it into perspective

It's just a test. Your mental health is more important than any letter grade or grade point average. I know in the moment it's hard to think that finals are not the most important thing in the world, but it's true. Take care of yourself and if you feel like you are becoming too overwhelmed, please seek help from a friend, family member, or licensed professional. You are worth more than anything.

4. Call your mom

...or dad, or brother, or sister, or grandma, or best friend. This is one of my favorite things to do when I am feeling way overwhelmed with finals. It's nice to speak to a piece of home. It is comforting and always makes me feel better -- without a doubt.

5. Eat a good meal

A good meal nourishes not only your stomach, but also your brain. While chips from the nearest vending machine might be faster and more convenient, a good meal will set you up for success! You can even make it a study break with your friends. Good food = a happy soul.

6. Reward yourself

All work and no play makes for a stressed and sad college student. Treat yourself with little rewards throughout the day, interspersed with your studying. Whether that means FaceTiming a friend, getting a snack, or taking a quick power nap, do what you need to do to make your studying the most effective it can be!

7. Set goals

It is so much easier to study when you have set goals in mind. It helps keep you motivated and enthusiastic about completing your work!

I wish you all the best of luck with your upcoming finals and I know that you're all going to kill it!!!

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer.
