As a college student who loves sleep, mornings tend to be my least favorite and as school approcahes I cannot help but cringe at the thought of waking up early. However, if you cannot avoid that morning class you have to find a way to be able to not only make it there on time but make sure your brain is ready to learn. Here are a few tips that can work to help you in becoming a morning person!

1. Avoid the Snooze!

Everyone is guilty in hitting that snooze button but sometimes we keep hitting the snooze until its noon and you have missed your classes! Try your best to avoid the snooze and instead of a normal alarm set one of your favorite songs to dance to. This way the rhythm will start to wake you up and will also put you in a good mood!

2. Have An Upbeat Playlist.

Music is one of the greatest tools to try and wake yourself up when the morning hits. No matter the type of music you like, make sure your playlist is sending nothing but positive vibes that way your mindset will start off positive despite being up so early! Songs like Major Lazer's collaboration with Justin Beiber called "Cold Water" is definitely a great song to wake up to!

3. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee!

There is no better taste in the morning than the first sip of coffee. Whether it be hot or iced, coffee is that perfect get up and go drink. Even if you do not drink this liquid gold, there's something about holding a cup in your hand that just helps the waking up process. Especially for those who commute to school, it is the perfect wake up call. Make sure to eat something with your coffee to avoid having an upset stomach which could make the rest of your day a little more complicated.

4. Wash Your Face/Shower.

Now depending on your preference, if you shower at night, I would recommend that you wash your face in the morning as a way to help you wake up! The refreshing water is an easy way to help wake yourself up. Now if you are the type of person who likes to shower in the morning, this is also a great tool to help wake you up. It is like you are clean and ready to start a brand new day filled with many possibilities.

5. Don't Make Eye Contact With Your Laptop.

By that subtitle you are probably thinking what? As you are getting ready for bed, try not to use your laptop because an activity you could be doing on there for thirty minutes could end up prolonging you to stay awake for another three hours. There is something about that lit up screen that just encourages your brain to stay awake. I am as guilty as the next person but if you follow this trick that 8 a.m. class may not be as hard to wake up for!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
