It doesn't take much to know that the temperature has dropped so low this season that it's cruel. Walking across campus from my biology class to my dorm (which is about a five minute walk), my dry hair turns white and my ears sting from the cold. So here are some things I do to keep myself warm that maybe you could try as well!

1.) Limit your time outside

This mostly applies to college students walking to and from class, but anyone can find a shortcut when walking outside! I had a class all the way on the other side of campus last semester, so once it started getting cold I would walk through other buildings on campus that are on my way to the building my class was in. It may take a few extra minutes but the warmth is worth it! And if/when you are ever lucky enough to have the day off, just stay in the house and do the following:

2.) Wear layers

This may seem a bit obvious but, as a girl, sometimes wearing less layers just looks better. But I am here to tell you that it is not worth it. I would much rather look like a marshmallow, but be toasty warm (no pun intended), than look cute, but be freezing my butt off. "But Mary, I love leggings and leggings are so thin!" WELL I HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU. Wear two pairs! I have been doing that a lot lately, because I get cold so easily, and it really helps keep warm as well as feels comfortable!

3.) Drink something warm

Whether it's hot cocoa, tea, or coffee that sparks your taste buds, include it in your warm day. I can just imagine the heat of my hot chocolate traveling down my throat and feeling the heat spread throughout my body. It's just amazing.

4.) Cuddle up!

Call me cliche but I love to cuddle; especially when it's cold outside. Whether it's with my dogs, my boyfriend, or even by myself in my favorite blanket, cuddling really does warm you up. It's also very relaxing! Add in some Disney or horror movies (two very different types of movies), or your favorite series and you've got yourself a very nice experience.

As we descend into the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 (the coldest parts of the year), just do these four things and you won't even feel the cold. If there is one thing you should take away from these four suggestions, it's this: just stay inside with baggy clothes, blankets, a nice show/movie to watch, and don't get up unless it's to refill your hot beverage! Basically, don't do anything productive. This is all for the sole purpose of keeping you warm, I'm just looking out for you. It's for your health.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
