With midterms coming to an end and Thanksgiving break around the corner, it's easy to lose all hope and motivation to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Yet, do not give up! I urge you to not wait until New Year's to make the resolution to start working out again but to keep up that healthy lifestyle right now too! Here are some tips that will make being healthier a little bit easier.
1. Do not eat just because you are bored.
It is vital that you can personally distinguish the difference between being hungry and being bored. You would be surprised by how much you eat just due to absolute boredom. So, next time you are watching Netflix laying down, take a moment and think if you are really hungry and want a snack or not. Most of the time, you will not be hungry but your mouth is just bored. In that case, I strongly recommend you just chew gum instead of stuffing your face with gummy bears and popcorn (my go-to Netflix snack).
2. Always choose stairs.
Yes, as annoying as it is, choosing to take the stairs over the elevator is definitely more beneficial to your health. Plus, the elevator always takes too long and is too crowded. Choosing to take the stairs will help you in the long run. After all, every step counts!
3. Wash your hands.
Although this is (hopefully) common sense to most people, studies have proven that just by simply washing your hands every so often throughout the day can prevent a large number of illnesses. Don't just wash your hands after using the bathroom, but wash your hands before you eat, after you get out of class, etc. is also a good idea.
4. Utilize your university's health center/facilities.
If you ever are not feeling well, stop by your university's health center! You can always make an appointment or just stop by for some free cough drops or tea. They will assist you with anything!
5. Eat green every day.
Make sure you are eating something green every day, whether it be lettuce or green beans or a salad in general. Green foods are good foods.
6. Wash your bed sheets.
It is recommended that one washes their bed sheets at least once every two weeks. Not doing so may result in getting sick. Sleeping in the same dirty old bed sheets will certainly lower your immune system as there are dust mites, body oils, and probably food crumbs hiding in your sheets. Studies have shown that majority of college students choose not to wash their bed sheets as often as they should. Do not be lazy and put your sheets in the laundry!
With the change of weather and all, it is imperative that you choose the right path toward staying fit and staying healthy. Surprisingly enough, there are less than three weeks until Thanksgiving and six weeks until the end of the fall semester. Let that motivate you to keep up your healthy lifestyle!
