People have been asking me how to save money. So, I decided to demonstrate here with pointers on how I was able to go above my monthly goal last month with these steps. It is very important to keep track of your money so these are the points I follow to save money.
1. Count up all the money you have.
From all your bank accounts to the cash in your wallet or purse and add it all up.
2. Subtract ALL your bills.
You want to do this before setting a goal because whatever you do with your money thereafter, won't affect your bills which should be your first priority.
3. Make a monthly goal.
Approximate how much you make per month at work or at a paid internship or whatever and add that to whatever you have left. Make that your monthly goal.
4. KEEP TRACK OF YOUR FINANCES.
Meaning, write down everything you spend your money on daily. That way you can actually see how you are spending it. BE HONEST.
5. NEVER CHANGE YOUR GOAL.
Changing it won't discipline you to do better. You won't see what you can improve on if you do. Businesspeople don't do that. If you fail, look at how you can improve the next month.
6. Set a spending limit.
"I'll spend $200 this month on groceries and gas."
7. Know that emergency expenses are always excusable.
They don't count on the spending limit.
8. Put aside from each paycheck.
A good 20% or more depending on how much you earn for a vacation or concert-- you gotta live too!
9. Gift yourself once in a while.
Not every single weekend chilling at home is good for the soul and the pocket.
10. Eat more home cooked meals instead of fast food.
It saves you money and it helps with your health. I lost 1 pant size the past 2 months doing this. Meal prep ain't only for athletes.
11. If you fail for the month don't worry.
Look where you went wrong, analyze what you can improve on, and set your next monthly goal and discipline yourself in that area. Then slowly watch your money rise.
