Life these days seems like it's going too fast and not fast enough at once. I find that this makes me a little manic sometimes because while I'm going through the cycle of work, school, and socializing, I build up a load of tension. Thoughts are a lot like like laundry.
Every now and then you have to sort them (or not), dump them in and let them spin. There are ways we like to go about clearing our heads; journaling is what I find most enjoyable and effective. However, sometimes it's difficult to dedicate time out of an already busy day to journaling. Here are some tips on how to make it work!
1. Don't feel like you have to write a whole novel, or even coherently.
We can't all be Rory Gilmore, and you don't have to be when it comes to expressing yourself on paper. It can be difficult to imagine how to put thought to ink. Maybe you also just aren't the meticulous bullet journaling type. Think about what you might say aloud and write that down. It doesn't even have to make sense; rambling is very therapeutic.
2. Download a journaling app.
...or just use the notes app on your phone if you're low on storage. There are, however, some great apps out there that can send you reminders, record your mood, and organize your entries. You can journal before you get out of bed in the morning or before falling asleep (it might even help you doze off). It's less likely you'll want to get out out bed to find a pen but your phone is most likely near you at all times.
3. Journal internally.
It sounds strange, but it can work! This may not be for everyone, but if you can clear your head-space enough, try to "write" out in your head what you might want to say on paper. Not only are your thoughts safer, but you can pretty much do this anywhere--on your way to work or school, perhaps. If you are alone in your car or in your room, you could even try journaling aloud. I've penned some very emotional monologues in my day. Get creative with it.
Personally, I find that writing in my journal is kind of like a self-therapy session. I feel so much lighter and less befuddled by life afterward, maybe you will you too!
