We all have those times when we mentally just go on standby. We don't feel like getting out of bed, we have to motivate ourselves to do anything, nothing interests us. It can feel like you're just going through the motions of life. I recently wrote an article about how it's okay and normal to have bad days, but what are you supposed to do when those bad days pile up and it seems like you're going into this downward spiral of a bad path? You may be going through something personal or you've just hit a rough spot for no reason. Whatever it may be, you are going through it and you're going to come out on the other side.
1. Get out of bed
It can be so tempting to stay in bed all day and watch Netflix. It feels like a better option to avoid the world that day. Whenever I have done this in the past, I always feel like crap about it afterward. Make yourself get up. Stop hitting the snooze button and tackle the day.
2. Go outside
Go outside and get some fresh air. Go to a park, go on a hike or just simply sit on your patio. Some fresh air and a nice view can do everyone some good. This is also a good place to clear your mind and sort through your thoughts.
3. Interact with people
It can be easy to shut yourself in your room and avoid everyone and everything. It is a proven fact that interaction with other humans is good for our mental health. Go chat with some girlfriends or grab some food with a friend. You don't necessarily have to talk to them about what you're going through, but I bet if you do, they'll understand.
4. Exercise
This is another good place to think and de stress. I'm not saying you have to have a 2 hour weight lifting session. Just go for a walk or do a quick ab circuit. Get your blood flowing and your heart rate up. It always feels good to sweat from time to time.
5. Put your phone down
Whenever I'm feeling lazy and unmotivated, I always grab my phone or turn to YouTube. We can end up in this pattern of endless scrolling and it's not healthy. We look at others lives to avoid our own. Put your phone down and do something productive.
6. Write it down
Simply just write how you're feeling that day. It doesn't have to flow or make sense. Just write your thoughts on a page. It might help you determine why you got into a rut in the first place and you can turn to it when the next rut hits.
