Dear Future Freshmen,

Coming into college is stressful.

1. Try to branch out from friends from home.

2. Decorate your dorm the way you want to.

Yes, tapestries are mainstream, that does not stop you from going ahead and purchasing your own.

3. Do not be afraid to join new clubs or experiences.

On a college campus, there is really something for everyone. Whether you like to play sports or want to be in a Quidditch club there is something for everyone.

4. Be careful.

As I said before college is a new experience. You have to be careful with who you trust and surround yourself with. I am not going to deny the stories are true there are some pretty bad people out there just be careful.

5. Keep an open mind and do not judge people so quickly.

I learned this lesson the hard way. I judged my best friends now quickly and now I spend all my time with them. Also do not be quick to judge teachers or food.

6. Try new things.

Coming to college I had a very sheltered food taste. Now that I am in college I have tried everything. It does not mean that I like everything but I have tried everything.

7. Easy Mac has to be cooked with water.

8. If you are in a communal dorm wear flip-flops in the bathroom... always.

Trust me you do not know what has been on that floor... nor do you want to.

9. Studying is important but put time aside to enjoy yourself.

College is hard but it is still okay to branch out and enjoy yourself.

10. College drama is unnecessary.

If it won't affect you in 5 months, don't give it 5 minutes.

11. No one cares who you were in high school.

If you (thought you) were "Queen Bee" or the bottom of the social pyramid no one cares.

12. Seriously go to the gym. It's an hour of your day.

Going to the gym has become my favorite thing to do this semester. It is a nice stress reliever and trusts me you will be stressed.

13. Go to class, extra credit is a thing in college.

Even if that 8-am seems horrible still go, you never know when you will get extra credit.

14. Getting a random roommate is not as terrible as it sounds.

College is your chance to be you and start a new. You do not want to room with someone you were friends with in high school. I went random with a roommate (in the sense that I did not know her before college) and I love her.

15. Do not get mad at professors for your bad grade.

Instead keep a calm, level head and go to the professor and ask what you did wrong and how to fix it.

16. You are going to grow apart from your high school friends.

College is supposed to be the time of your life. Enjoy it while it lasts. Do not do anything you do not want to or are uncomfortable with.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
