Starting college can be an exciting time. It's a time for new beginnings, a time to find yourself. The good thing about college is, everyone starts off with a fresh slate. It doesn't matter if you were considered popular or a geek in high school, college is a whole new ball game. College can be both exciting and scary, between balancing the workload and making new friends, college is definitely a big step towards adulthood. Here are a Few tips for the Incoming Freshman, on how to keep cool and college on. nerdy? I know.

First and foremost, it's super important to know your surroundings. It doesn't matter whether you are a resident or a commuter, knowing where the security office or the bathrooms on campus are located can make a world of a difference. Plan ahead and take a trip to the school, if you haven't already. Community Colleges offer tours for incoming freshman as well. Map out where your classrooms are and what's close by so you don't forget.

Be on top of your plan. There's most likely a degree you have in mind, make sure that you are signed up for the classes that will benefit you in the long run. I hate to say it but most schools just want to make money, and if you sign up for four classes you don't need towards your degree, you don't get the money back. Schedule a meeting with your advisor and make sure you are on track. Not sure what to do? A liberal arts major will help you get your feet wet.

Be Organized. This is something I cannot stress enough, make sure to take down all assignments and keep all of your paperwork organized for each class. I always designate each class to one folder and make sure that my class syllabus and schedule are highlighted and easy to access. Syllabi are life savers because they really allow you to know what that professor expects of your work and participation wise. It's important to know that every professor is different and can make their own class rules, as long as they are in compliance with the college or University. A planner either electronic or paper is really helpful also. It is so important to stay on track of assignments and exams.

Make sure to always eat right and exercise. This is really helpful when it comes to managing the stress of starting a new chapter in your life. Beat the Freshman fifteen and eat right. Don't forget to sleep too, our bodies need the recharging time, napping can be a great help during a long day to help combat headaches and stress.

And lastly you most be confident. It is so important to make yourself known in the classroom. Make sure your professors know who you are and they you are an active member of the class. Not only be confident in class but be confident and make new friends. This is a new beginning and you should jump at every opportunity you have. Get involved and enjoy your time in college, it goes by super fast! I hope that these small tips have helped you out a bit, and good luck! You can do anything you set your mind too! The world is your oyster!

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded.
