Optimism is a happiness magnet, if you stay positive, good things, and good people will be drawn to you. Here are some helpful tips to for keeping a positive and healthy mind:

1. Start the day POSITIVELY

Have you ever felt like your day was ruined the second something bad happened? This happens when you start the day with a negative mindset and are allowing negative thoughts to consume your mind. Reading positive quotes, or listening to music can improve your mood. By reading positive affirmations or trying to relax by listening to music, you’ll begin to say, “Today will be a good day.” Your mood will improve immediately.

2. Focus on the GOOD

Whatever happens throughout your day, you may encounter obstacles or struggles. Nobody has a “perfect day.” When life throws you a challenge, focus on the good, try to see the good even if it is minuscule. Good things will come your way if you focus on the positive, and not the negative.

3. LAUGH it out

In the moment when bad situations occur, a lot of us dwell on the negative too much, and will constantly think that way until the moment subsides. However, it is important to remind yourself that this situation will probably make a good story later and try to make a joke about it.

4. Lessons LEARNED

Nobody's perfect, you're going to make mistakes and experience failure. Instead of focusing on the mistake you have made, think about what you're going to do next time to improve your mindset. Turn your mistakes or failures into a lesson.

5. Focus on the NOW

By focusing on the now, this one individual moment, you’ll discover that what you’re going through isn’t as bad as you thought it would be. Negativity can come from the exaggerated imagination of what potentially could happen, but focusing on the now, you will alleviate stress and negative thoughts.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
