You're beginning a new adventure very soon, but I can guarantee you are freaking out on the inside. Don't worry, we have all been there; the only thing you need to worry about is waking up for that 8 a.m. you told yourself you would have no trouble getting to three days a week.
1. Coffee.
You don't have to buy a coffee maker for your dorm, but make sure you grab five cups a day, especially if you have that 8 a.m.
2. Take action if there is something you want to change, schools are more than happy to hear you out, especially if it beneficial to the community.
3. Two words: Office hours.
Professors have them for a reason and are always more than willing to help you, but if you don't go then they will have no idea how much you are struggling.
4. Many professors have their PowerPoints online, but that does not mean that you should skip the class.
5. Stock up on highlighters and index cards; taking good notes is important.
6. Find a good balance between work and fun.
7. Learn to do your own laundry before you go to school.
Don't learn the hard way. Accept that the washers and dryers at school are going to suck and that your favorite sweater will shrink.
8. Call your family.
It will mean the world to them that they can actually hear your voice instead of reading words on a screen.
9. When you are working on anything important, press save more than you have before.
10. Don't worry about coming in with your major declared.
Most people take their freshman to figure out what they want to do.
11. Budget, save your change and small bills.
In just a little bit of time, you will have saved a decent chunk of money.
12. College is more similar to high school than some people realize.
There will be cliques, people will talk; just ignore them and find your own place.
Take your time, enjoy yourself and stay safe. Enjoy your freshman year! Xoxo.
