Mom and Dad always said it would be a big responsibility to get a dog. I've learned it's so much more. Dog owners have it ruff sometimes but we love our fur- babies. Here are a few things you typically deal with as a dog owner.
1. Dog hair is everywhere
It's in the car. It's in the bed. The vacuum cleaner is clogged. Dog hair takes over your life and a true dog owner doesn't care anymore. There's only so much you can do.
2. Squeaky toys
They're almost impossible to avoid when searching for a toy and your dog loves them. My dog will always want to play with the loudest toy at the most inconvenient time. She loves ramming toys into my leg to encourage me to play. Those slobbery squeaky toys are the worst.
3. Personal space
You have none. Your dog just wants to smother you with love. So much love, you can't do anything alone. There's only one place my dog doesn't follow me, the shower. If I shift my weight, she's jumping up to see where we're going next.
4. Feeding time
Preparing to feed your dog may mean calming them down at the most exciting part of their day. Even with training, most dogs can barely control the extra movement and droll when they see food. Some people say dogs will eat anything, but dog owners know their pup's favorite treat.
5. Walks
If you don't have a yard, you get so much exercise being a dog owner. We take three or four walks a day and no matter how many times you walk the same path your dog has to sniff/mark every spot.
6. Other dogs
Socializing with other dogs is a sensitive situation. We think we know our dogs but they have a different connection with other dogs. If both owners agree to let the dogs meet, be on high alert and hope for the best. They may even become best friends.
I am celebrating 11 months of sharing my life with the cute pup on the right. Sadie has made adulting much more exciting. Her best friend Buddy is the handsome good boy on the left.
